Bishop Wedding

On the day of their wedding, Kimberly and Greg meandered the same farm land without catching a glimpse of each other pre-ceremony. They were equally giddy and pleasant, eager to see each other and say their vows under blue skies. The wedding took place on a family friend’s farm in Linville, Virginia. Kimberly and Greg created a very thoughtful event that was a comforting representation of the two of them. Their day was complete with hand-touched goodies like dried flower bouquets, bow ties made by their friend Morgan, a beautiful painted watercolor tree/guestbook by their friend Marcia, a precious mini wooden bride and groom set painted by the groom and centerpieces made with tree bark collected by the bride and groom on their many hikes together. Even our post-ceremony couples photos included a hillside hike that made them both beam with joy. (Yes, the bride was happy about hiking up her wedding dress and tromping through dirt. That’s because she is awesome.) But it wasn’t just the decor that had personal meaning, they had a ceremony duet by Maggie and Jordan, who both attend their church, a ceremony led by the bride’s step father, a solo by the groom’s father, hand-churned apple cider that turned into team effort, dinner by local favorite A Bowl of Good, a cake baked by the bride’s uncle and iced on the spot and live music by local band Many Nights Ahead to keep the reception lively.

From start to finish, guests smiled and hugged and celebrated their joy. To close the evening, everyone gathered outside while the couple attempted to light a paper lantern as the wind gusts picked up. There on that hill in Linville, we all stood together under millions of stars as the groom’s father began singing “This Little Light of Mine”…and all the guests joined in. It felt very symbolic to hear this beautiful sound coming from their loved ones, surrounding them, in the complete darkness.

Hartsell Wedding

I arrived at Barren Ridge Vineyards a few moments before the bride and groom. And I’m glad I did. Otherwise, I would have missed the arrival of the soon-to-be-wed couple who casually strolled in the back door, wedding dress in hand, wind blown hair and beaming, relaxed contentment settled into their eyes. At first sight of their freshly decorated tables they both became vocally excited and thrilled that it was here. Their wedding day was finally here.  They rushed to different rooms to change and in a few short moments they were embracing and celebrating once again. The wind carried the time away as we wandered around the hills and vines of the vineyards with a Dalmatian in tow. Their family joined and later their friends and before we knew it the sun left the sky and guests enjoyed an epic first dance, a wonderful gourmet meal, smooth wine, toasts, stories, and lots of dancing. Congrats and cheers to you both, Amy and Kelly!bsomeIMG_0830 bsomeIMG_0823 bsomeIMG_0816 bsomeIMG_0808 bsomeIMG_0813 bsomeIMG_0854bsomeIMG_1025bsomeIMG_1030 bsomeIMG_0872bw bsomeIMG_0878bsomeIMG_0888bsomeIMG_0898bsomeIMG_0895bsomeIMG_0906bwbsomeIMG_0905bsomeIMG_0920bsomeIMG_0926bsomeIMG_0935bsomeIMG_0799bsomeIMG_0955bsomeIMG_0957bsomeIMG_0947bsomeIMG_0951bsomeIMG_0949bsomeIMG_0938bsomeIMG_0940bwbsomeIMG_0963bsomeIMG_0971cbsomeIMG_0968bsomeIMG_0978bwbsomeIMG_0986bsomeIMG_0984bwbsomeIMG_0983bwbsomeIMG_0995bsomeIMG_1009bsomeIMG_1016bsomeIMG_1006bsomeIMG_1151bsomeIMG_1156bsomeIMG_1130bsomeIMG_1137bsomeIMG_1062bsomeIMG_1107bsomeIMG_1119bsomeIMG_1125bsomeIMG_1159bsomeIMG_1163bsomeIMG_1145bsomeIMG_1174bsomeIMG_1188bsomeIMG_1194bsomeIMG_1196bsomeIMG_1186bsomeIMG_1201bsomeIMG_1209bsomeIMG_1212bsomeIMG_1236bsomeIMG_1244bsomeIMG_1280bwbsomeIMG_1289bsomeIMG_1302bsomeIMG_1448bsomeIMG_1572bwbsomeIMG_1577bwbsomeIMG_1445bsomeIMG_1584bsomeIMG_1695bsomeIMG_1679bsomeIMG_1713bsomeIMG_1618bsomeIMG_1642bsomeIMG_1675bwbsomeIMG_1745bwbsomeIMG_1580bwCupcakes & Cake: The Cupcake Company | Dress: Kathleen Temple, Tailor | Custom knitted shaw: Knitting Savant |Caterer: TASTE. | Florist: Joy Shank Coakley of The Weekend Florist | Venue: Barren Ridge Vineyards

Whistleman Family

I’m convinced the Whistleman boys wake up with sneakers on because surely they hit the ground mid-sprint each morning. What a pleasure it was to meet up with these two fast-paced bundles of energy…and the parents that keep up with them(!) for a family mini-session on Storybook Trail. The sun was low in the sky and kept saying good night as our session continued. But I managed to get some shots and a decent workout. Successful evening.bsomeIMG_7378 bsomeIMG_7390c bsomeIMG_7534 bsomeIMG_7482 bsomeIMG_7536 bsomeIMG_7498 bsomeIMG_7455 bsomeIMG_7426 bsomeIMG_7469 bsomeIMG_7477bw

Layman Family

I met the Layman Family one brisk Friday evening after school. The park had not yet become busy with families so we took advantage of the tucked-away and beautiful Timberville Park. Little Owen wooed me with his silly faces, Madison was polite and gave me her super sweet smile. I’d say this is a pretty decent way to start off any weekend. bsomeIMG_6995bw bsomeIMG_6996 bsomeIMG_7001 bsomeIMG_7024bw bsomeIMG_7015bw bsomeIMG_7003bw bsomeIMG_7038bw bsomeIMG_7035 bsomeIMG_7010 bsomeIMG_7021bw bsomeIMG_7069bw bsomeIMG_7066bw bsomeIMG_7075bw bsomeIMG_7081bw bsomeIMG_7082bw bsomeIMG_7093bw bsomeIMG_7110bw bsomeIMG_7105bw

Blosser Family

On my way to the Blosser’s home for their family session, I got lost. And right after that, I lost cell service. And soon, I would lose daylight. After zigzagging around Fulks Run, Virginia for nearly thirty minutes, I found their home tucked away on a beautiful patch of land. As the sun began to settle in for the night, their three dogs greeted me with barks while darting circles around me. The baby, Harper, stared at me for a few minutes…then fell asleep, right on her daddy’s chest. The whole evening was perfectly imperfect, just the way I like. What a sweet little growing family!

Cason-Spicer

As I parked on Sunny Slope Farms, I did a mental fist-pump when the fall clouds parted and blue skies appeared. I’ve known Caleb for many years…and knowing him made me very excited to meet the woman that won his heart over. Laura hops out of their car, walks over to me in her noticeably-cute Frye boots and hands me a bag of chocolates. Um, can I marry her? Laura is sweet as pie and fun, too. And she loves to laugh…which is perfect because Caleb can be very laughable! They are a complimentary pair and as we wandered around the farm that evening I imagined them back there, in just a few months, in a wedding gown and tuxedo with all their crazy friends, saying “I do” and sealing it all with a kiss under the same set of trees. They’re in the middle of an exciting journey and I’m so happy to be a part of it.

Jen and Shawn

Jen and Shawn’s friends and family gathered and filled the yard of a family home just outside of Harrisonburg on a very fall-like September Saturday. Brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles chipped in to help with to-do lists while kids ran and screamed and laughed. The cows watched the day unfold as the grey skies turned to blue and two lovers became one family. It was a perfect backyard gathering complete with mason jars, barbecue chicken, glow sticks, soft blankets and a glowing fire. Cheers to you, Jen and Shawn….and to many more lovely evenings, just like this one.

Benjamin and Kenneth

It’s refreshing to witness love. The kind of refreshing that wakes your arm hairs up. The kind that wells your eyes with tears. The kind that makes you feel that part of your heart that sits dormant through your daily routine. Ben and Kenny are refreshing. Their love is real and inspiring. During the ceremony the officiant took several deliberate moments to ask guests to let their thoughts and worries go. To be there with each other and with the grooms. She insisted. And for an undetermined amount of time, I forgot I was there to photograph a wedding. Love was so present as their family and friends stood to reach out their hands in acceptance as Ben and Kenny proclaimed their love. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful experience there on Sunnyslope Farm. Many congrats to you, Ben and Kenny…may your celebration never stop.bsomeIMG_3397 bsomeIMG_3390 bsomeIMG_3401bsomeIMG_3890 bsomeIMG_3406 bsomeIMG_3408 bsomeIMG_3417 bsomeIMG_3465bsomeIMG_3863bsomeIMG_3845bsomeIMG_3904bsomeIMG_3458bsomeIMG_3441bsomeIMG_3442bsomeIMG_3444bsomeIMG_3445bsomeIMG_3460bwbsomeIMG_3467bwbsomeIMG_3480bwbsomeIMG_3481bwbsomeIMG_3484bsomeIMG_3500bsomeIMG_3494bsomeIMG_3511bsomeIMG_3514bsomeIMG_3531bsomeIMG_3523bsomeIMG_3526bsomeIMG_3554bsomeIMG_3557bsomeIMG_3556bwbsomeIMG_3560bsomeIMG_3561bsomeIMG_3574bsomeIMG_3575bsomeIMG_3578bsomeIMG_3842bsomeIMG_3844bsomeIMG_3847bsomeIMG_3584bsomeIMG_3586bsomeIMG_3609bsomeIMG_3605bsomeIMG_3640bwbsomeIMG_3668bsomeIMG_3681bsomeIMG_3682bwbsomeIMG_3703bwbsomeIMG_3674bsomeIMG_3670bsomeIMG_3705bsomeIMG_3722bwbsomeIMG_3741bsomeIMG_3754bwbsomeIMG_3736bwbsomeIMG_3728cbsomeIMG_3802bsomeIMG_3766bsomeIMG_3770bsomeIMG_3777bwbsomeIMG_3814bsomeIMG_3820bsomeIMG_3815bsomeIMG_3838bsomeIMG_3759bsomeIMG_3929bsomeIMG_3936bsomeIMG_3932bsomeIMG_3943bsomeIMG_3951bsomeIMG_3955bsomeIMG_3960bsomeIMG_3974bsomeIMG_3937bsomeIMG_3964bsomeIMG_3912bsomeIMG_3983bsomeIMG_3997bwbsomeIMG_3999bsomeIMG_4001bsomeIMG_4017bsomeIMG_4018bsomeIMG_4020bsomeIMG_4023bsomeIMG_4024bsomeIMG_3868bsomeIMG_4043bsomeIMG_4045bsomeIMG_4049bsomeIMG_4051bsomeIMG_4054bsomeIMG_4059bsomeIMG_4060bsomeIMG_4070bsomeIMG_4076bsomeIMG_3917bsomeIMG_3884bsomeIMG_3857bsomeIMG_4096bsomeIMG_4102bsomeIMG_4131bsomeIMG_4155bsomeIMG_4171bsomeIMG_4178bsomeIMG_4193bsomeIMG_4211bsomeIMG_4265bsomeIMG_4272bwbsomeIMG_4309bsomeIMG_4308bwbsomeIMG_4386bsomeIMG_4484bsomeIMG_4390bsomeIMG_4400bsomeIMG_4416bsomeIMG_4356
