She handed me a plate of warm chocolate chip cookies. A small gift largely representative of Kayleigh’s giant heart and sweet nature. About a year ago, I took a snapshot of Kayleigh and Brandon as they celebrated their friends wedding. This year, they are in the midst of planning their own wedding and I am thrilled to be the one that will document their special day. For the engagement session, we visited their wedding venue, The Columns at Six Penny Farms. With wonderful views in all directions, on this particular November evening, we enjoyed lovely golden sunlight pouring over rolling mountains.

As I parked on Sunny Slope Farms, I did a mental fist-pump when the fall clouds parted and blue skies appeared. I’ve known Caleb for many years…and knowing him made me very excited to meet the woman that won his heart over. Laura hops out of their car, walks over to me in her noticeably-cute Frye boots and hands me a bag of chocolates. Um, can I marry her? Laura is sweet as pie and fun, too. And she loves to laugh…which is perfect because Caleb can be very laughable! They are a complimentary pair and as we wandered around the farm that evening I imagined them back there, in just a few months, in a wedding gown and tuxedo with all their crazy friends, saying “I do” and sealing it all with a kiss under the same set of trees. They’re in the middle of an exciting journey and I’m so happy to be a part of it.
I couldn’t resist including a round of bloopers. I mean really, these guys are no fun at all…can you tell? Hah!

I recently met with Brittney and Jr at Bella Luna to talk wedding details. eee! Before I knew it, we were knee deep in plans for a Richmond engagement session. Jr’s band, Driven By Chance, had a show in RVA and I was traveling to the area for a project, so it seemed like the best.idea.ever! And it was. The universe smiled on us that Saturday morning…the only Saturday since the new year without the threat of a snowstorm or a tornado. <–that really happened the day before the shoot. There were puddles and birds and blue skies and sunshine…all the teasers of spring. We packed our heavy coats in the trunk, dusted off our sunglasses and made our way to the always lovely, Belle Isle.
With tummies grumbling and the road home calling us, we grabbed a bite at Millie’s Diner and inched our way home. A unanimous decision to detour led us to Castle Hill where the light poured as golden as the cider.
L-I-L-L-Y…incase you didn’t catch that. 😉

One side effect I typically have in the company of Lee and Jodi, is a sore face. Literally, my face aches after only a few short hours of laughter and prolonged smiling with these two. I expected nothing less from the day as I pulled up to Jodi’s childhood home in Roanoke, Va. The Blue Ridge Parkway was just a deep breath away and the grey skies hardly hinted of rain. It was perfect. Jodi and Lee were knee deep in a sea of clothes when I arrived and I entered with caution as to avoid the occasional airborne shirt, boot, and hot leather pants(!). We loaded up the car and headed to the Parkway for the first half of our shoot then on to downtown Roanoke. A lot of laughter and memories are documented below. Enjoy!

It had to be at least 20 degrees. Please note: they are not wearing coats. But it’s all good because Dan and Caroline sure know how to warm up a late November morning. We’re talking Christmas lights, leaf fights, and Blue Nile coffee here, which I’m convinced can cure any cold day shiver. Happy engagement Dan and Caroline!

A promising 60% chance of rain didn’t stop these two from making the trek from Richmond to the ‘burg. Not nobody not nohow! The grey clouds chased us, the thunder roared, and the rain did fall…but the weather forecast did not warn us of the gigantic spiders! *yehehegh* Amanda and Pete might be one of my favorite couples to shoot…and man they make me look good! So naturally loving and genuine. Who wouldn’t want to take pictures of that?
