Personality is an understatement. These girls are full of life and entertainment. I met with the Hughes Sisters at MOD Displays in Downtown, Harrisonburg. Why meet at an office? Well this office is owned by the girl’s parents and it offered the perfect space for a mini-session. Lots of light. Lots of space. And perfectly stark to let little personalities bounce from wall to wall. When I arrived they were mid-coloring session but soon enough they were striking poses and showing me their human frog and dinosaur impressions. Oh what fun it is to be a kid! They invited me upstairs to “Daddy’s office” and gave me a crash course on how to run a business. From phone calls to keyboard…stuff to concentration faces to the max. At the end of the session they hopped back up to the table, grabbed their crayons and got back to work.

Jenner Family {mini}
When I asked Rachel to say something to make Andrew laugh, she uttered “explosive diarrhea” without skipping a beat. Ok, it’s like that. And it worked – we all laughed. Except for Alexander who sat comfortably in his freshly changed outfit with a look of guilt across his face. What a sweet little laundry maker.
Rachel and Andrew invited me into their home to spend some time with them, their sweet dog, Foster, and their new baby boy, Alexander. I love love holding a session in someone’s home. I’ve been a guest in the Jenner house many times but never for the purpose of photography…and that changes things. I love seeing the way people live, unapologetically, on a day-to-day basis. I love the way coats rest and dish towels hang and blankets are tossed and plants bask in the sun. I love the smells. The sounds. The light. And on this particular occasion, the baby and his furry big brother were pretty easy on the eyes too.
Bailey
I can’t really call this a “session”…Bailey and I have been trying to get together for photography purposes for quite some time now. With her being home from school for the holidays we managed to squeeze in a photo-playdate. We met at my studio for coffee (and homemade cookies!) as the noon sun beamed through the windows. We talked aperture and shutter speed and laughed a lot and of course, I couldn’t help but to snap a few shots. A noteworthy mutual confession: Instagram food photos are NOT that bad. Come on guys, food is art!

Amber
It was reeeaally hard to choose only a few shots from this session to share. Can I get a YOW! This lovely lady asked me to do a boudoir session with her as a Christmas gift to her fiancé. Time melted away as we wandered around the house taking photos. The natural light loved this woman and her caramel, smooth skin. Let’s just say…her fiancé loved his gift.
Roberts Family {mini}
The Roberts have the kind of love that’s contagious. Watching them interact with positive attitudes, genuine care and affection was inspiring. I left their session smiling on that cool crisp day. And those girls….future models! Ha! I’m just glad I got them in front of my lens before Hollywood finds them.
Kimberly, Justin, Echo {mini}
If dogs are family then Echo is my nephew. My spoiled little turd of a nephew. I met with Kimmy and Justin and my turd of a…I mean, Echo, on what was probably the coldest day of this year so far. I exaggerate. They were up for anything so we wandered to this rundown nook in New Market. It made a great stale backdrop for their fun-loving personalities to shine through.
Flora-Parton Engagement
One side effect I typically have in the company of Lee and Jodi, is a sore face. Literally, my face aches after only a few short hours of laughter and prolonged smiling with these two. I expected nothing less from the day as I pulled up to Jodi’s childhood home in Roanoke, Va. The Blue Ridge Parkway was just a deep breath away and the grey skies hardly hinted of rain. It was perfect. Jodi and Lee were knee deep in a sea of clothes when I arrived and I entered with caution as to avoid the occasional airborne shirt, boot, and hot leather pants(!). We loaded up the car and headed to the Parkway for the first half of our shoot then on to downtown Roanoke. A lot of laughter and memories are documented below. Enjoy!

Brenda and Colonel
For Valentine’s Day Brenda’s husband gave her a surprise photo shoot with the love of her life…her horse, Colonel. I’m a little skittish around animals and that makes them skittish around me…and that makes me a giant woman-child. Seriously, it’s not pretty. When I saw this beast I shrunk in my boots. Horses are huge! Brenda laughed-I was nauseous with fear. I quickly relaxed, observing Brenda and Colonel’s very special relationship. He was calm and gentle to her touch.
